Measure through camera - MegaRuler !

Guten Tag!

Let me introduce to you one interesting application that will definitely help you.
It is called "MegaRuler" and brings to user a functionality of measuring real-life objects right through camera preview.

In three main modes you will be able to:
- find out the distance and height of nearby objects in just 2 clicks directly from camera preview
- calculate a distance to remote object when its width or height is approximately known
- compare sizes of two near-standing objects by known size of one of them

Additional features:
- analyzed picture can either come from camera preview or can be openned from phone's memory card
- portrait 'n' landscape modes
- zooming (with Volume buttons)

Very nice I idea. But the distance seems to high. I tried to get the distance and height of my pc monitor. So I set my own height to 1.6m (when I'm sitting). The app says the distance is 4.5m. But in reality it's only about 1.5m.

What am I doing wrong here?

PS: A calibration for the tilt sensor would be nice. If I choose option 1 I have to hold my Wave about 10° to the left until it's shown as horizontal even.

In mode 1 you and measured object should be on same level. In your case I think pc monitor is on table

Wow, you must be a real giant
I just measured 1.20 m when sitting ...

And I think, you have to aim with camera to the ground, so it uses your hight over ground and the angle to calculate the distance. I think your monitor isnt on the floor?! So, If you aim at the monitor, the app is calculating how far away would be something standing on the ground in the direction of your monitor

Weil mein Englisch grad unter aller Kanone ist:
Aus Höhe und Wave-Neigungswinkel rechnet die App die Entfernung aus. DH du musst die Höhe angeben, die du dich oberhalb deines Objektes befindest, also beim Monitor auf dem Tisch: im Sitzen ca 30cm über der Unterkante ...
Ansonsten zielst du "durch den Monitor durch" auf den Boden, gegenüber dem du dich in 1,20m Höhe befindest.
Zumindest nehme ich an, dass die App so arbeitet, einfache Mathematik

Also please notice that you don't enter your height (for example, when standing)
- but a height of your EYES (i.e. distance from your feet to eyes)

1) yesterday there was new upgrade of MegaRuler 2 with useful features like:
- sensor calibration for even better measurements
(thanks to Catscratch for the idea)
- special screen for entering of float numbers
- Polish language added
2) and also now you have 2-days trial period to get better feeling of this app
3) release for Wave-Q in already in certification !
